Exchange 2003 Storage Groups & Mail Store
I have a Mail Store that is 45 gb, over the last year we have deleted a lot of old users and purged them. I want to strink the edb but doing an offline defrag is not possible. I only have another 20 gb of space on the server, and the server itself is 3,000 miles away. Could I create a new Storage Group, new mail store and move the users to the edb? That would in sense defrag my edb and reduce the size? Let me know if this sounds good. Thanks

Hi, That sounds good. It does however still require diskspace on the server (as much as the current database - white space) and it does require that the exchange server is the enterprise edition. Leif

If the server is Exchange 2003 Standard Edition, you cannot create additional Storage Group. Otherwise, you can create a new Storage Group or database, move them to the new database and defrag the old database.
