Exchange 2003 internal email history missing
This is weird, If a user sends an email internally (either new or forwarded) the email history disappears. For Example:If I send you an email, when you reply your original email is included within the reply, then if I reply to you the two original emails are within my reply. These are all removed (or more precisely not displayed) if the recipient is an internal client. But they are displayed if the recipient is an external email address.I have checked and all the clients have the "include original email text" setting set in \tools\preferences\email options\on replies and forwards in Outlook. It must be something within Exchange that is not displaying the email history because if you, as the recipient of an email with no history forwards it to me saying "look here is an example of an email with no history" it arrives complete with history. One other clue if you check the senders "Sent Items" the history is missing. All clients are using Outlook 2003 with all latest patches.

Hi,
Normally message body have two format parts. One is text/plain, another one is text/html. According to mail client settings, mail client (such outlook) will read text/plain or text/html as message body. Apparently, some Outlook clients have problem to read html part. When you open it
with Microsoft word 2003,(outlook use MS word editor). You will not find message history.
Lets refer to the following suggestions to narrow down our issue.
1. Read mail with test/plain format:
Tools -> Options -> Preferences -> E-mail options -> Select Read all standard mail in plain text. Reboot Outlook and test the issue again.
2. Do not use Office word 2003 to edit /read e-mail messages in outlook.
Do not select:
Use Microsoft Office Word 2003 to edit e-mail messages
use Microsoft Office Word 2003 to read Rich Text e-mail messages
If the issue persists, please test the issue via OWA and let us know the result.
Hope this helps. Thanks,
Elvis

I have done the tests you suggest, they all show the history missing. It's not as simple as the users first explained it to me. The history is not completly missing, this client uses outlook stationary and the previous emails are there but the content of the emails is missing. The previous emails, users email address time date etc and the background (Stationary) is all there just the actual text of the email is missing. What makes it worse is it is intermittent, I tried to recreate the problem by following the path of an email sending it from the original account to all the same recipents, it worked fine!
Talking to the users it seems that if "User B" recieves an email from "User A" and forwards it to"User C"it is at this point that the content dissapears. When "User C" recieves it the"User A"' content is missing so "User C" can see the comments made by "UserB"but not the original emails content.- but only sometimes at all other times it works fine, although the users feel it is getting more common.
Confused yet? Any ideas
I have asked the users to track and print any emails when this happens. Once I have this information I will look at the printouts to see if I can see any pattern of users /computers. In the meantime if you can think of any reason for this I would be most grateful.
Thanks
Mick

Hello All -
I would like to through a wrench in the mix if I may.
My office uses Domino for email. Since my upgrade to 7.0.3 of Domino I found I could append message disclaimers to all my outgoing emails automatically. So I set up a disclaimer in HTML format to be added at the end of our messages.
Now using your information posted in here I was able to replicate the issue (because we've seen this since the upgrade 2 weeks ago) using Outlook 2003 and 2007 connected to my gmail account.
Interestingly, I can replicate the problem with Outlook 2003. The problem only exists when I send messages and my disclaimer is appended in HTML format. If Ichange the disclaimer to be sent in plain text, even though my message is HTML, I can reply and see the history no problem.
It's almost as if Domino is appending a different kind of HTML code or something. I am trying to study the document source in Outlook to see if I can see any different code information.
Now the kicker, Outlook 2007 does NOT have this issue. As I work through and find more info, I'll post it here.
Thanks for the initial start on this guys.
Jim
