I have a 2003 Exchange server environment. One front end server and two backend servers at separate sites. I have deployed a new Win2008 Server box and installed my first 2007 CAS role. I have changed my firewall settings and have succesfully accessed email via OWA with no problems. I am somewhat lost from here and hope someone can answer my question. On my old setup email is sent to my front end server which relays the email to the backend servers. At this point do I change my firewall settings to send email to the new CAS 2007 server? I have tried this and of course recieve no external email. I was assuming the Hub Transport role must also be put on this new server but come up with the message "Setup cannot detect an SMTP or Send connector with an address space of '*' Mail flow to the internet may not work properly" This is a popular subject on the net but have found no answers. Would appreciate if someone could tell me if I am on the correct path on what I have done so far and if so where to proceed from here. Thank you as I am somewhat lost at this point.

not having deploy exchange 2007 into production yet my answer may not be 100% but it may help. As far as I know you would need the Hub transport role on the CAS server if you want mail to flow through it as this role will add the SMTP functionality. I believe you also need to setup connectorsthat accept anonymous connections if you wanted to send and receive e-mail from the internet to that server without an edge server inbetween. Hi,The CAS server provides the connection from a variety of different clients, such as OWA, ActiveSync, POP3 and IMAP4. But it is not responsible for transfer the email which Hub server do it instead.When installing the Hub server, the warning message "Setup cannot detect an SMTP or Send connector with an address space of '*'. Mail flow to the Internet may not work properly" was received which is just an information to let us know before installation. Thank you all for your answers and info. I have successfully installed my Hub Transport server by enabling IPv6 and also registering some dll's for WMI per a couple of articles I had found. All installed correctly from there. I am now at the point of having to create my connectors and will use some of your links as well as some links I have found to do this.
