Exchange 2003 to 2010 Problem
Hi Guys We are in the process of upgrading to Exchange 2010. We currently on 2003 Exchange - it complained about SP 2 that is not installed on 2003 - I did install SP 2 on exchange 2003 and I can see it says SP2 - when I run the setup in exchange 2010 and browse to the current exchange it states exchange sp2 but it when setup is busy it stops and says "One or more servers in the existing organization is running Exchange Server 2003 without Service Pack 2 (or later). Installation cannot proceed until existing Exchange Server 2003 computers are upgraded to Service Pack 2." SP 2 is installed. Does anyone know what the problem can be? I tried some resources on the internet but most of them tell me to reinstall SP2 again - wich I did. After the install I did a reboot aswell - the old exchange is still working but can continue with the new exchange - the new exchange only fails at that point all other installs goes through fine. Please can someone maybe point me in the right direction? Thanks Bertus

How many 2003 servers do you have? Are there any orphaned 2003 servers in your environement (check ADSIEdit)? Can you run a check of your AD and make sure replication is working. Run DCDiag and Repladmin?Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

Hi Thanks for the reply man. Only 1 exchange 2003 server, no orphans. It should be plain forward but some reason 2010 doesnt want the see that sp 2 is installed on 2003. I must add that it gives me warning to say that it will run Setup /prepareAD. Thanks for help, much appreciated.

Did you run DCDiag and ReplAdmin? Also, can you run the Exchange Pre-Deployment Analyzer and post any warnings or errors? Only warning I got is the following "SuppressStateChanges configuration parameter should be set to 1 on server Exchange".

So you don't need to worry about that warning if you only have one 2003 server. So can you run the setup again, if it fails, on the 2010 server, browse to c:\exchangesetuplogs\ExchangeSetup.log, scroll to the bottom and post the details of the failure.Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

I am not seeing an error in this log. Is there more? What is the specific error you are seeing and when exactly do you see it?Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

This is all I can see, and that is exactly my problem.. {One or more servers in the existing organization is running Exchange Server 2003 without Service Pack 2 (or later). Installation cannot proceed until existing Exchange Server 2003 computers are upgraded to Service Pack 2.} Running exchange setup in cmd like this: setup.com /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions and when i run the install from the gui, after the organization prerequisites, then all the other options chosen goes through fine.

Can you please double check the following....Open ADSI Edit and the Configuration partition. Navigate to Configuration -> Services -> Microsoft Exchange -> ExchangeOrganizationName -> Administrative Groups -> First Administrative Group -> Servers Do you only see your one server or are others there as well?Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

Seems like something went bonkers with my replication - on the PDC it still had our exch 2000 account on - i removed that from the pdc - run the replication again, and now it is instsalling. So lets hope this will be the last problem, never thought it can get this complicated. I will see how the installs go - if i run into problems that I can solve myself I will ask for tips again. Thanks for all your help man, you a legend.
