Exchange 2007 (SBS 2008) : Restore PST not copy to exchange
Hello. We recently upgrades to a NEW server running SBS 2008 from SBS 2003. We purchased a new server for this.Since we looked through all the TID's, and online chats, all stating one thing, cant move between 2003 and 2007 exchange. We thought be easy case of keeping the server names the exact same, then use backup exec to restore the exchange, but even that did not work!We found an easy way of doing this. Re-create all users as new on the new system, and backup on the old system thier entire mailbox by using outlook 2007, and choosing... File > Import / Export > Export to File > Export .PST and we select the entire mailbox, and save to a PST file on the local hard drive. We did this for all users and the public folders. We Copied the saved PST files, and put them into the new server. We then went to each user in Outlook 2007, and restored the backup pst, into outlook mail box. ... File > Import / Export > Import from file > .PST select the file, and restore to same location. We did this also for public folders. Now I dont this before when I moved data for another company when moving between 2 SBS 2003 boxes (Old and New) and this worked with no problems. The problem I now have, is that each user's data, is SAFE, as is stored on local machine, but when i use for example, webmail, it does not bring up the old mail data.I am puzled, as this should have restored to the mailbox on the server, and not kept localy. Can you give me any idea why it has done this, and what actions need to done in order to merge the data back into exchange 2007.Can you also tell me under the SBS 2008 platform, is there an backup program which is provided, as now rather reluctant to use backp exec since it did not do its job for which i paid a lot of money for. Many ThanksStuart.Whitwell Garage IOW

The OWA didnot showed you all old emails because you imported the Mails to PST's and not to Mailbox. in exchange 2007 you can follow the below steps to import the PST to mailbox How to Export and Import mailboxes to PST files in Exchange 2007 SP1 http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2007/04/13/437745.aspx SBS 2008 has backup interface for backing up exchange 2007 see below Introducing SBS 2008 Backup http://blogs.technet.com/sbs/archive/2008/11/03/introducing-sbs-2008-backup.aspx I guess you need to post this under SBS 2008 forum. Experts over there should be able to help you out. http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/list/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs&cat=en_us_25c94334-6e44-45f5-8952-88f3cf9b5d24&lang=en&cr=usVinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|
