Exchange 2007 - delete / recreate mailbox now giving NDR's
Just deleted and recreated 2 mailboxes in Exchange 2007. AFter recreating and importing the pst via powershell, people are unable to reply to old emails both internally and externally. This is a huge problem since the guy is in sales.
This means he would have to send an email out to every single person he has interacted with in the last 10 years and tell them to erase all the old emails and only repspond to this new email. Is there something I can do on the exchange side of things
so that when people respond to old emails that he has sent out they will still come through?

Yeah, you don't do it that way because it breaks things the way you're seeing them broken.
Create a new "other" proxy address for the user, of type X500 (no quotes), and convert the address in the bounce message to the form:
/O=Organization/OU=AdminGroup/CN=Recipients/CN=User_CN
You'll have to try to figure out how to do this based on the bounce becuase it doesn't give you the exact form, but it should look like that. If you can't figure it out, post the bounced message (always post error and bounce messages in your future
queries), and one of us can help you.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

so the error message says...
IMCEAEX-_O=Company+20MEDICAL_OU=First+20Administrative+20Group_cn=Recipients_cn=juser@company.com
So the error message would convert to X500
/O=company medical/OU=First Administrative
Group/CN=Recipients/CN=juser@company.com????

Hi Fannonland,
Please copy the
IMCEAEX-_O=Company+20MEDICAL_OU=First+20Administrative+20Group_cn=Recipients_cn=juser@company.com
to the proxyAddress:
ADSIEDIT.MSC->Default naming context->DC=domain,DC=COM, CN=OU name->CN=
deleted user->Right click Properties->Attribute Editor->proxyaddress
But could you please tell why you want to delete the mailbox and recreate it? Maybe you should disable it first.Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. To the recreated mailbox add a new "Other" proxy address of type "X500" (no space) with the value "/O=Company MEDICAL/OU=First Administrative
Group/CN=Recipients/CN=juser@company.com" (no quotes) and then replies to messages received before you recreated the mailbox should route properly to the recreated
mailbox.
For future reference, if you ever think you need to delete and recreate a mailbox, copy the AD attribute legacyExchangeDN using ADSI Edit and then you can follow the above procedure with that address.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."
