Could you please be more clear.
Are you talking about CCR cluster or its SCC ?
800 GB is way too high. Keep the database size below 100 GB. This will help reduce downtime and also recovery options are very easy.
I hope that clears your doubt. Thanks Sunder

if you wish you can take a full backup of all the db's before performing the task.
but dont forget to take a full backup once offline defrag is completed.
and i dont understand which policy you are talking about.Kottees : My Blog : Please mark it as an answer if it really helps you.

Please review the detailed configuration guides on support.veritas.com as there are may items to work through. You'll be here for weeks with individual questions and replies :)
Couple of other things"
How do you know that you databases can be made smaller? Have you looked for event ID 1221 in the app logs?
Recommendation is not do do offline defrags unless you have reclaimed dramatic ammounts of space, as Exchange will reuse the space.
As mentioned you MUST do another full backup after offline defag as it is technically a new and different database.
Database size is big, though its all up to you with the SLA that you have defined for messaging services. If it can be restored in that SLA window, then great. if not then not
so good.....Cheers, Rhoderick

hi,
Have you done a full backup before?
A full backup is a complete backup that archives every selected database and all necessary log files. Log files older than the checkpoint at the time the backup was started are deleted after the backup completes.
So if not,i think you should do a full backup. It will reduce the space that
Occupied by the log.

Thanks all of you
Dear
Rhoderick Milne what do you mean by
reclaimed dramatic ammounts of space, as Exchange will reuse the space.
or how can I reach it .
as my alittle experiance really looking for full support on this issues .
I created Personal folder for each employee and moved emails form their mailbox on the server to this PST file and am trusting that these database after offline difrag it will reach small size even less that 100Gb .but from where can I start that my problem
now .
Thanks .

hi,
>>>reclaimed dramatic ammounts of space, as Exchange will reuse the space.
This means that you have white space in your database.
The database size on the physical disk isn't just the number of users multiplied by the mailbox storage quota. When the majority of users aren't approaching their mailbox storage quota, the databases consume less space and white space isn't a capacity concern.
The database itself will always have free pages, or white space, spread throughout. During background database maintenance, items marked for removal from the database are removed, which frees these pages. The percentage of white space is constantly changing
due to the efforts of the 24x7 online defragmentation process.

after that I want to unmount this database (exch.edb) and run offline defragment ,this operation I want to do it when others are mounted and working ,is it right?

I would suggest dropping a line to the
Symantec Connect - NetBackup Community. Long term, you might want to consider archiving Exchange data with Symantec Enterprise vault.
