Dears I have an Exchange 2007 installed at 2 node and I have Vname under windwos 2008 , it's migrating from 2000 exchange and now working well .I have Veritas Netbackup 6.5.4 administration and client 6.5 my database over 800 Gb ,can you help me be clear instruction to backup my exchange database .

Could you please be more clear. Are you talking about CCR cluster or its SCC ? 800 GB is way too high. Keep the database size below 100 GB. This will help reduce downtime and also recovery options are very easy. I hope that clears your doubt.Thanks Sunder

thanks for reply , we are using cluster and have virsual name for exchange ,I try to reduce the database size and now reduced but must be to run off line defragmentation but first I need to backup all database before this defragmentation because am fraid that carsh happen due this operation . I have the follows: exch.edb = 50 Gb exch1.edb = 300 Gb exch2.edb = 250 Gb exch3.edb = 100 Gb exch.edb = 80 Gb On the exchange Policy I selected Information store ,is it right or wrong or can I create individual policy for each database . please help .

You'll be here for weeks with individual questions and replies :) Couple of other things" How do you know that you databases can be made smaller? Have you looked for event ID 1221 in the app logs? Recommendation is not do do offline defrags unless you have reclaimed dramatic ammounts of space, as Exchange will reuse the space. As mentioned you MUST do another full backup after offline defag as it is technically a new and different database. Database size is big, though its all up to you with the SLA that you have defined for messaging services. If it can be restored in that SLA window, then great. if not then not so good.....Cheers, Rhoderick

hi, Have you done a full backup before? A full backup is a complete backup that archives every selected database and all necessary log files. Log files older than the checkpoint at the time the backup was started are deleted after the backup completes. So if not,i think you should do a full backup.It will reduce the space that Occupied by the log. thanks, CastinLu TechNet Community Support

I created Personal folder for each employee and moved emails form their mailbox on the server to this PST file and am trusting that these database after offline difrag it will reach small size even less that 100Gb .but from where can I start that my problem now . Dear Am try again to take full backup this week after made some checking but it false also . Now I have one series question ... I have plan as follows please give me your Tech comments : first because no way to backup Information store long time ago that mean the log file have full size now and alos my drivers on the SAN going to be full am going to backup one by one mean each storage group (start with exch.edb ) ,is it right way and if backup completed is the log files for this edb deleted ? after that I want to unmount this database (exch.edb) and run offline defragment ,this operation I want to do it when others are mounted and working ,is it right? or must be to unmount all these database to run offline defragmentation . you reply is hight appreciated ..
