Exchange 2007 DL Management
Hi, I have this situation where i am assigning a user to manage a distribution list membership. This user has a linked mailbox and the distribution list members are also linked mailboxes. The linked mailboxes are created because they are on a different trusted domain/forest. The user setting in AD for the distribution list is also set to "manager can update membership list". However, when the user try to remove or add a member it returns an error "changes to the public group membership cannot be saved. You do not have sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object". I've reviewed the DL security in AD and the necessary "write members" permission is all needed to get this to work if a user has regular mailbox (not linked mailbox). I played with the security permission by adding the users trusted domain account which give him the following permissions by default; Read, Read Exchange Information, Read Exchange Personal Information, Read Phone and Mail Options. I was looking for the "Write members" permission but not available. So, i tried changing the permission by selecting the "Write" permissions instead and the following are automatically selected; Write, Add/Remove self as member, Write Exchange Information, Write Exchange Personal Information, Write Phone and Mail Options. These permissions seemed to work. But is there any danger? Thanks TagaR

Hi TagaR, Per your description, it seems no danger for the DG, except for more permission are granted to the account. If you want to grant only the add/remove member permission for the account, we could follow below information: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc164350(EXCHG.80).aspx Regards!
