Exchange 2007 Database Restoration process
Hi,
I've a situation that needs someone to advise on it...
I need tojournal inbound and outbound messages for an organization. To accomplish this, I created a special mailbox database in its own storage group. All the emailsare being archived into this mailbox. This storage and mailbox are located in NAS.
Once the NAS is full, I need to replace with a new one and detact existing one. Each NAS andjournal mailbox database has to keep as history for 2 years. The company do not have EV solution, nor backup.
Currently,Exchange Standard2007 is used, and can only have 5 storage groups per server.
My questions:
1. Can I simply dismount the journal mailbox database that is full from Exchange server, and detact the NAS?
2. When I connect the new NAS toExchange server, can I continue to create anew storage group and mailbox databseas a new journalingmailbox?
3. If someone would like to retrive old message, can I easily re-mount the storage group from the previous NASand review the content? (Does Exchange server has the capability to recognize the storage group and mailbox database without going through proper Backup and Restore process?)
Thanks and Regards

I think your approach, at "disgarding" an exchange database for later use is flawed.
Do not create a new storage group. When you connect your new storage, simply adjust the storage group and/or database settings to move the content to the new location. the DB will go offline during the move, and then mount when finished. Move SG Move DB
