Exchange 2007 Database size
I have exchange 2007. The mail database is 113gb. If I add the individual mailbox sizes together I get about 50gb. What takes up the other 63gb?

Hello,Go to your application Event log and look for Event ID 1221. What does that tell you? the EMC doesn't show the size of rules, deleted items etc etc. What is the retention period for itesm which are deleted from mailbox, or deleted mailbox store?Even though you delete items from exchange mailbox store, or delete exchange mailbox.. the size of the database will not sink, unless the online maintenance clear out those items and after that you need to run offline defrag to squeeze the size of the database. You only need as much extra logical drive disk space as the final size of the files after defragmentation. To get an approximate estimate of the database (mailbox or public folder database) file size after defragmentation, look at application event ID 1221. This will tell you how much free space is in the database file. From the current database size, subtract the amount of free space specified in event ID 1221 to determine the approximate end size of the database after defragmentation. Although it is impossible to precisely predict how much disk space will be reclaimed, you should leave a recommended 110 percent of free disk drive space. Similar to how the mailbox or public folder database generates event 1221 to report logical free space after an online defragmentation, the MicrosoftExchangeServer2007 Edge Transport or Hub Transport server Queue database files also generate an event ID 7007 that reports logical free space after an online defragmentation. In addition, Queue databases on the Exchange2007 Edge Transport or Hub Transport servers generate event ID 7006 to report logical free space before the online defragmentation.Source:How to Run Eseutil /D (Defragmentation)http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998863.aspxArun Kumar | MCSE - 2K3 + Messaging | ITIL-F V3

Hi JMacDyal,
I would like to explain that EDB file = Users actual data + Deleted mails/mailboxes + Recyclable space (can see in event id 1221)
Understanding Exchange Databases Disk Consumption
http://www.msexchange.org/articles/Exchange-Databases-Disk-Consumption.html
So please refer to Aruns suggestions, check event 1221 in event log to see how many spaces can be gained, and then use an offline defragment to release more spaces.
Thanks,
Elvis
