Exchange 2007 Design
Hi,We have freedom to design an Exchange 2007 environment to provide as much benefit as possible with the budget we have.We want to get some level of HA or DR depending on available option. The two data centers are connected by a 1GB managed WAN. It is not possible stretch a VLAN across both sites or use the same subnet. Both sites are in different AD Sites.1. Create a CCR cluster. To do this I would need to use Server 2008 and make both subnets (different) members of the same AD site. Is this likely to cause problems with mail delivery, authentication etc. How would the server handle being located in the 'wrong AD site' - what would happened with CAS/HT servers. What would happen if the WAN to the primary AD site died, would there be a reliance?2. Create an SCR cluster between the data centres that would provide us witha DR model.Advice very much appreciated.Steve

Hey Steve,We have had a couple of our customers that have similar configurations. We go with an 8 server base design -- 2 x Edge / 2 x Cas / 2 x Hub / 2 X MBX in a CCR Config. If you are looking for HA in the DR -- then you have a choice to run -- a pure HA with 8 servers or a 4 server build in the DR Site. There are many options for the configuration and it depends on your SLA's that your organization has defined.I would recommend going to Windows 2008 and Exchange 2007 SP1 -- You get a lot of performance and scalability options out of box.If you would like to chat about this I would be more than happy to help.ThanksDave KawulaPrincipal Consultant TriCon Technical Services Inc.
