Exchange 2007 Managment Console on the DC
I have built a new multi domain forest, and ran into the issue when missing the DLLs to see Exchange objects in ADU&C. So I went to install the EMC on my other DCs, just so I could see the objects nicely in ADU&C. Trying to install EMC,
I ran into the error stating I needed to have IIS6 Metabase Compatibility and IIS6 Management Console are required.
My research shows that all signs indicate this is a requirement, but... I do not have any reference to IIS6 (or IIS in general) that I can see on the first DC that I originally ran forestprep and domainprep on. I've double checked the first DC,
and IIS is not listed under roles, there is no inetpub directory, and the inetsrv directory has nothing in.
So my question is how do you get the Exchange Management Console onto a DC without having to install IIS (like my first one has)?

Exchange 2007 does not install management tools with Active Directory Users and Computers. Exchange 2007 uses its own separate management tools, the Exchange Management Console and Exchange Management Shell.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

That's not quite what I am getting at.
I know that EMC and ADU&C are completely different tools with different features and uses. The catalyst of my issue is that ADU&C doesn't understand Exchange specific objects without the Exchange DLLs being installed. For example, go
to a box with just ADU&C and look at the MESO container (it doesn't recognize this), now try and look at the contents of the MESO container.
I also know that this is not a showstopper, but I just want it to have a cleaner look.
That being said, what I have found is I have a configuration where I have EMC installed with no IIS6 components whatsoever, and according to Setup and online docs these components are required.
This brings me to my question:
How do I / did I get the Exchange Management Tools installed on a server "without" installing IIS components. Obviously it can be done, as the first domain controller in my environment, where I extended the schema and prepped the domains, has both
EMC and EMS running.

You should be able to see the Microsoft Exchange System Objects container when you select Advanced Features in ADU&C.
I can't answer your question as I've never had a need to do it. I would just install IIS.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

I could not see the MESO container in the folder list in the left pane with Advanced Features selected, the MESO container simply shows up as an object in the right pane. It is a base object with no association or class, so appears as the standard
unknown object image.
I am trying to avoid installing IIS on my DCs. There has to be a way, as I my first DC has no IIS yet has all the tools loaded.
