Exchange 2007 Maximum CPU/RAM
Hi, We're looking to deploy Exchange 2007 64bit Enterprise to an IBM x3950 server that has 8 Dual-Core CPU's and 64GB's of RAM. Looking at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998874.aspxhas me confused at the moment. We want to use this server for multiple roles since it has so many resources, but according to the tables provided the "Maximum's" for CPU is 4 and RAM 8. But for the Mailbox only role, CPU is 8 and RAM 32. Can someone please explain this? If we proceed with our current specs will we run into problems? Thanks, Matt

Hi Matt, If you read through this article : http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2006/09/25/428994.aspx The Exchange team blog suggests that this recommendation is due to the fact that one server hosting multiple roles does not have ashighavailabillity when you have lots of users as when you split out theserver roles. The actual Exchange processes will chew up as much resources as they require. From other posts the Exchange team blogalso suggest that the price for server RAM gets comparatively high when you go higher than 32 and some times it may be better to spend the same money on more servers with less RAM. I haven't done any price comparisons to look at this. Cheers, Rhys
