Hello my name is John. I am new to exchange, i recently set up my first server for a town. Now they are doing a migration from Novell to Exchange. Right now the server is connected to an external test domain, lets say pvilleva.net. They currently run a lets say pvilleva.gov. Some Background of the hardware and software. It is Exchange 2007 Basic on a server 2008 machine. Its firewall is a SonicWALL. The old system was a Groupwise mail server, we are currently migrating the Groupwise to Exchange via quest tools. Another company is in charge of the migration, while i we implemented the Exchange server. Now what i would like to do is Receive email from pvilleva.gov, while groupwise also receives mail. Is this at all possible? I'm assuming I'd just make a new receive and send connector for pvilleva.gov, but i don't want to be making any mistakes here. The reason for this is just to make sure everything is preped and ready for the migration later this week. I was also given two task from the man in charge... "I don't know what you call these things exactly but I want rules (groupwise term) set: 1. All new mail coming into Exchange and going out from Exchange gets saved in a location not available to users. 2. All users mail will be archived after 60 days automatically." ... I'm not sure if this is possible, but i don't know where to begin, once again, i'm no exchange expert. I have been told that i can't do this without enterprise exchange, is this true? If not if someone could point me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks a lot I hope you can help me, John

Sounds like you're asking 3 things. Here are my responses:1- you need to configure SMTP namespace sharing with Exchange and Groupwise. Thanks for the reply! I have begun to set up the journal mailbox/database now, i am getting an odd error though, Outlook Web Access could not find a mailbox for PTH\Journaling. If the problem continues, contact technical support for your organization and tell them the following: The mailbox may be stored on a Microsoft Exchange 2000 or Microsoft Exchange 2003 server, or the Active Directory user account was created recently and has not yet replicated to the Active Directory site where this Client Access server is hosted. When i am trying to log into my journal account. Would anyone happen to know the cause of this? I would assume its because it has not replicated in the AD yet, but when i made other test mailboxes for testing it replicated with great haste. I emailed the person incharge and asked them the create an AD user for journaling, see how that works.

Does the mailbox show up in EMC?

Looks like all i had to do was reboot the server and it went fine and the journalism is successful! I already found the solution to my first problem, that means the second is taken care of aswell, now only one problem left with the 60 day archive. I have looked into auto archive, but i don't like the idea of it much for two reasons, one i would have to set it up on every user's outlook, and two if hardware malfunctions then i would loose the pst. The leader of the project has given me a thumbs up if i find any third party software that can do the archiving, do you have any advice on where to start looking?

Yeah, I didn't mean "personal archive" with a PST, I meant a folder called "archive" or something that would integrate with a 3rd party monitoring product. There are a lot of players in this space (exchange archiving) but I've heard the most about Symantec Enterprise Vault.
