Hi,I am getting this error when trying to update Exchange 2007 to Service Pack 1.[ERROR] Setup encountered a problem while validating the state of Active Directory: Setup could not retrieve the schema master domain controller information from Active Directory.I have 1 primary domain controller with 5 additional domain controllers.The primary domain controller is 2K3 R2 64bit and is running the exchange2k7.DCdiag and Netdiag are completing fine.Nslookup is fine, no DNS errors, not external DNS addresses.the primary dc is also running all the fsmo roles and is the schema master.any ideas?

Hi, First, we dont recommend installing Exchange Server on a DC. Please run dsquery server hasfsmo schema on the server and check the result. Please help me confirm the following settings, if a disabled adapter was top in binding order, modify it. 1) Go to properties My network Places 2) Advanced Menu 3) Click advanced Settings 4) Under Adapter and Bindings tab make sure the Enable NIC is in top order 5) Trying to install Exchange 2007 SP1 again. If the issue persists, please paste the related ExchangeSetup log and event log error here for our further discussion. The NIC is in correct binding order.As for the command i performed dsquery server -hasfsmo schema and it showed the below(editted)"CN=SERVER,CN=Servers,CN=Default-First-Site-Name,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=com,DC=au"which is correct.

Ok, so i have got a step further, When the schema master is on the domaincontroller/exchange server and i run the readiness check it fails with that initial error, although when i transfer the schema master to any of the other 5 additional domain controllers the readiness check completes fine. I know i could install SP1 and transfer the schema master role back after it installs but that could lead to more issues..
