Fresh install on Windows Server 2008. Joined machine to a 2003 AD domain. Downloaded the Exchange 2007 SP1 trial. Extracted files locally to c:\IT\Exchange 2007. Ran setup.exe. Step 1 for .Net is completed. Step 2 for MMC is completed. Step 3 for PowerShell is completed. (installed the optional feature) Click to start step 4 "Install Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 SP1" Results in setup.exe error that states "Exchange Server setup encountered an error." Then the installation goes back to the install screen with the different steps. Application log show the following: "The description for Event ID 4999 from source MSExchange Common cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer. If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event. The following information was included with the event: 692 E12 False the message resource is present but the message is not found in the string/message table" No other errors show up in the logs. Any help or thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

Dear customer: In order to better troubleshoot the issue, please collect the following information: 1. Did you Prepare Active Directory and Domains? 2. Did you run the following command on Windows Server 2008? ServerManagerCmd -i RSAT-ADDS 3. The installation log locate in <system drive>\ExchangeSetupLogs\ExchangeSetup.log folder, send it to v-rocwan@microsoft.com, 4. On Exchange server 2007, open Event Viewer, right click application, save the log file as .txt file, and send it to v-rocwan@microsoft.com. Thanks for your time and cooperation. Install is on Windows Server 2008. So the requirements are probably different than what you listed as the first listed requirement is 2003 Server.

If you are running Windows Server 2008, try to install Microsoft .NET Framework Version 3.0, perform the following steps: 1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. 2. In Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools. 3. In Administrative Tools, double-click Server Manager. 4. In Server Manager, in the console tree, click Features, and then in the result pane, click Add Features. 5. In the Add Features Wizard, select .NET Framework 3.0, and then complete the wizard. 6. Check the effect. Also, I want to confirm the following information with you: 1. Do you prepare Active Directory and domain prior to install Exchange 2007 SP1? .Net 3.0 is already installed. "setup /" commands result in same error on Windows 2008 machine. "Setup /pl" was run with 32 bit installed on Schema Master which is Windows 2003 32bit. Windows 2008 is 64 bit. Installer used on Windows 2008 is 64 bit with SP1. Dear customer: Thanks for your reply. If you are deploying a new Exchange organization, and you are preparing your Active Directory schema and domains by using a computer running Windows Server 2008, you must first install the Active Directory management tools on the Windows Server 2008 computer prior to preparing the schema or domains. To do this, run the following command: ServerManagerCmd -i RSAT-ADDS And check the effect. Please let me know the result. It is not a new Exchange Organization. There are 3 existing Exchange 2003 servers. There is nothing else in the install log. The same lines appear over and over just with different time stamps for each attempt at running the installation. Also at this point, all "setup /" commands have been run with the 32bit installer on the Windows 2003 Schema Master. The Exchange Best Practice Analyzer shows that the environment is ready for Exchange 2007.

Dear customer: Thanks for your reply. If E2K7 installations ISO file that you downloaded was corrupt, it may cause the issue. You can try the following steps to fix the issue: 1. Stop all Anti-Virus activity on the system that will be the target for the Exchange Server 2007 iso file download. 2. Re-Download the Exchange Server 2007 iso file 3. Make sure the Exchange Server 2007 installation files are local to the server you will be installing to. 4. Rerun setup, check the effect. If the issue persist, to proper assist you to troubleshoot the problem, please help collect the following information: 1. On Exchange server 2007, navigate to drive\exchangesetuplogs\prereps folder; please send the newest .log and .xml file to me. 2.
