Exchange 2007 SP2 install on CAS/HT
Hello,I have a Windows 2003 domain with Exchange 2003 in Frontend Backend topology. Backend servers are clustered and Frontend servers are NLB'd. I am in the process of transitioning to Exchange 2007 from Exchange 2003. I installed Exchange 2007 with SP1 on both servers with CAS and HT roles checked. Installation went fine with all Exchange 2007 services started with E2K7 SP1. When I tried to install Exchange 2007 SP2, installation failed to finish the task with error "The Microsoft Exchange Transport service failed to start" IPV6 is enabled by default. I tried removing/ re-adding IPV6 but installation still fails. Have anybody seen this issue? I see a lot of posts regarding Transport service not starting, but not sure whether it happened after/ during Exchange SP2 install. Thanks in advance

What does the Exchange Server Setup Log say? Did you try
starting that service manually yourself?-- Ed Crowley

Hi,If you are installing exchange on windows server 2003,then please understand that IPv6 is not supported in any version of Exchange 2007 on a server that is running Windows Server 2003. Besides, Exchange 2007 SP1 and SP2 on Windows Server 2008 doesn't support configuring static IPv6 addresses during setup.

Hello,
Exchange setup log is around 2MB thus I can't upload all of it to this workspace. Is there any part of the log you are interested to look at?
Thanks in advance

Hello,I am not sure whether this makes sense or not but let me put this out. These servers are in our QA and I am testing co-existence with E2K3. This setup includes two DC's (2K3 AND 2K8) with W2K3 as PDC and W2K8 as additonal DC. Also a functional clustered E2K3 backend with two nodes. These servers don't have internet connectivity and are patched to latest built using offline updates.Installing E2k7 with SP1 went fine and while upgrading to SP2 Transport service failed to start thus installation failed. Find below the steps I took to troubleshoot this issue.1. I have .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed (no other flavors of .NET installed on these boxes). I went to /drivers/etc/ and modified hosts file to point crl.microsoft.com to localhost. This DIDN'T help.2. Disbled IPV6 from registry, unchecked IPV6 from ncpa.cpl, rebooted the servers and went back to ncpa.cpl enabled IPV6 nad ran setup. This DIDN'T help.I uninstalled E2K7 completely. Earlier I haven't installed any E2K7SP1 rollup updates and I was assuming that I could jump in to SP2 without installing the rollup updates. I am not sure whether we could jump into SP2 from SP1 without any SP1 rollup updates. Anyways, I installed cumulative rollup update 9 for E2K7 SP1 then installed E2K7 SP2 and installation completed succesfully. All services started as expected.Thaks
