Check this out to find which all are required services based on the Exchange server roles which you installed on your server.

Did you attempt the installation only once and failed? Or it failed and attempted installation more times also...
If you attempted only once, failed and you have all services disabled, never attempted more time then runServiceControl.ps1 -AfterPatch in Exchange Script installation folder which will set all services to their default state which they were before you tried to install update...

Too bad you didn't get an answer to your question, since this is the first page google turned up when I asked the same question. Some $245 Microsoft Exchange monkey changed all my Exchange services startup types, then didn't put them back
after he decided he couldn't solve the problem.
In my experience, you have about 1 chance in 10 of getting a decent answer to a question when selecting social.technet.microsoft.com from the search results. The rest of the time somebody answers your question with another question (often,
like "why do you want to do THAT"), imparts information that does not answer your question, or sends you off to a link that is a waste of time.
If I do find the answer, I'll come back an post it for the next person who gets sucked into thinking there's a real answer here.
