Exchange 2007 Trace, and troubleshooting the calendar
Hi All, We've had some ongoing issues with high volume calendar uses in a delegate / manager setup, and I've decided to setup a trace on their account via ExTRA. Now, I don't know how I can actually open and view these files? I understand they're primarily for MS Staff, but is there an alternative that I can use to access similar data? The problems we're having include changed instances of recurring events reverting back to the original, and mysteriously deleted events. These issues are happening somewhat frequently these days, but the unusual thing is - the user's iPad has the correct events. Even after a reload of the iPad mailbox, the events display there how they're meant to. However on Outlook, and even OWA - they do not. Any help is greatly appreciated.

As far as I know, this need special tool to read the .etl files. I suggest you contact Microsoft support to help you check the data. What is an Extrace ? http://blogs.technet.com/b/appssrv/archive/2009/05/18/what-is-an-extrace.aspx Thanks, EvanEvan Liu TechNet Community Support

Thanks for that. Is there an alternative tool or way I can audit Calendar transactions without having to get MS Support involved? Surely there's a way for an IT department to internally troubleshoot these issues? The data collected in ExTRA sounds like exactly what I need, but if there's something very similar I'll use it

What Service Pack and Update Rollup of Exchange are you using? There were a good number of fixes in UR4 for problems with mobile devices, recurring meetings, deleted meetings, meeting changing ownerhsip, etc. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2563324 Unfortunately, even the debugging trace from Outlook isn't usable without MS help: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/what-is-the-enable-logging-troubleshooting-option-HA001230421.aspx --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP
