Exchange 2007 across AD Domains
We have just merged with another govt department and have the following setup:Dept A:Windows 2003 Active Directory domainLotus Domino 8.5 for email (no Exchange installed in this environment)Dept B:Windows 2003 Active Directory domainExchange 2007 sp1 with latest roll-up installed: 2 CAS servers, 2 Mailbox servers with CCR, 2 HT serversWe have trust relationships setup between the 2 Active Directory domains andhave Quest's Migration tool to migrate users to Exchange.I would like some advice on the best way to migrate usersfrom Lotus Domino to our Exchange 2007 environment without installing Exchange in Dept A's AD domain. Do users have to have an account in Dept B's environment when they are migrated to Exchange? Or can the existing AD accounts in Dept A's environment be used? To useDept A'sexising AD accounts, does Exchange have to be installed in Dept A's AD domain? Or should we create a new account in Dept B's domain that is mailbox-enabled and use Outlook Anywhere to connect to Exchange? That way users in Dept A's domain can continue logging into their domain and we don't have to worry about changing login scripts, etc so the users can function.Any advice would be much apprciated. :)

You can keep Exchange in DomainB and users accounts in DomainA. Do you keep two internet routes (DomA<->inet and DomB <-> inet)? If so, you should also configure Notes/Exchange to add the other domain as a routing option to prevent Notes/Exchange to send the other domain's e-mail to the internet connector / smtp gateway. If not, you should configure routing accordingly and set Notes/Exchange to accept the other domain's e-mail and let it forward those.

Maybe I didn't explain myself properly. Sorry for that. Mail routing is already setup between Lotus and Exchange.I have created AD accounts in the domain that has Exchange installed and the migrated users will use Outlook Anywhere to connect to the Exchange servers in domain B but will still continue logging into their PC into domain A. This appears to be the simplest way without creating too much work and making too many changes. I believe password syncing can happen between the 2 AD domains which I have yet to figure out how to do. If anyone can shed any light on this that would be great. Thanks. :)

You can sync passwords between 2 domains using password export server, but it depends. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=F0D03C3C-4757-40FD-8306-68079BA9C773&displaylang=enHowever, why keep two domains in sync? Its more administration and makes things needlessly more complex.

thanks for that. We are waiting uintil the State elections in March before making too many changes in case the department gets split up again. If we stay together then e will probably migrate everyone into a single domain.
