Exchange 2007 and Outlook 2007: No public folders
I installed a fresh version of Exchange 2007 using the "Outlook 2007 only" option. When I connect to the server using Outlook 2007 I am not able to see the public folder root. I created a newpublic folder database and mounted it as described in the Exchange Server documentation but this did not help. I also created a new folder inside the database using the command shell butthis did not help either. How can I enable the public folders? Thanks for your help. Christoph

Can anyone please help me with this issue? If I there is no solution I have to go back to Exchange 2003. Thanks, Christoph

Public folder support will come in SP1 for Exchange 2007. The beta of SP1 is available from microsoft website.

That's incorrect. Public Folders are supported on Exchange 2007 RTM. Verify you've followed the instructions correctly in How to Create a New Public Folder Database http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123687.aspx Restart your clients and they should see the public folders show up. If it doesn't appear, restart the Microsoft Exchange Information Store on the server that you've created the public folder. That should force it to see the public folders. Then, if necessary, restart your clients again. I'll talk with the writer of the topic to determine if it needs to be corrected or clarified if there is a delay between creation and the public folders showing up for the clients. thanks, David.

I should clarify... Public folder management comes in SP1. Public folders themselves are supported in RTM but cannot be managed in the GUI until SP1. And they are not visible in RTM OWA until SP1.

I was told by a Microsoft MVP that when you do the install that when prompted if you have any Outlook 2003 or ealier clients that you should say "Yes" so that exchange will install legacy public folder support.

Correct, improved public folder administration support is coming in SP1. The option to support Outlook 2003 clients and earlier controls whether a public folder database is created during installation. Selecting No to this option during setup but later creating a public folder database provides the same end state - a server that supports Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2003 and earlier clients. David.

David, I followed your instructions but it does not work. I followed the steps without getting any error messsge. The Public Folder Store is existing and mounted. I reboootet the server and the clients twice but I still can not see any public folders in Outlook. Any ideas? BTW: Microsoft should rename the installation option "Support for Outlook versions < 2007" to "Support for public folders". This would have saved me a lot of time. Best Reagrds, Christoph

Verify you're using the correct Navigation Pane view. You must be using the "Folder List" view to see public folders. To change to the folder list view, click the Folder List button at the bottom of the Navigation Pane, or if you've reduced the number of buttons at the bottom, the folder list button will change to an icon that looks like a file folder.

After mouting your public folder database , restart Exchange information store and check your outlook folder list view. Tamer Sherif Mahmoud MCSE,MCTS,MCITP
