Exchange 2007 client setup via outlook
We are running SBS 2008 and Exchange Server 2007, and were trying to configure the settings in outlook so that when we are away, we can access our mail without using the remote.xxx.com/owa site. Not really sure where to start...I guess, what would
be the server settings we would need to use, how would the username need to be entered, what needs to be modified in exchange, and what ports must be open?
Thanks much!

Hi
You need to configure the Outlook Anywhere feature in EMC/EMS; Go to server configuration -> CAS and right click the server and configure outlook anywhere function
Check this link
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123513%28EXCHG.80%29.aspx
Also, you will "need" a 3rd part certificate, UC/SAN is the preferred one, or you will need an internal CA and deploy certificates to the computers.

Thank you for the response.
Outlook anywhere is enabled, but when I try to setup outlook it won't connect...
Username = used both SERVERNAME\Username and just Username
Password = Password
POP3 Account
remote.xxx.com for incoming
smtp.xxx.com for outgoing
Are the server setting incorrect? How do I look those up?
Here is the error I recieve using remote.xxx.com since that is what is entered in the CAS properties.
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'remote.xxx.com', Server: 'remote.xxx.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
Thanks!

It looks to me like you've moved past the server setup for Outlook Anywhere and now need to properly setup your Outlook clients to connect.
You won't be using POP3 to do this. Take a look at this page for the instructions on how to prepare Outlook:

Hi,
For this issue, if you want to use Outlook Anywhere, you should not use POP3 to do it. You can follow these documents to configure Outlook
Anywhere:
If you are using Outlook 2003, you can follow this document to configure RPC over HTTP:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/office-2003-resource-kit/configuring-outlook-2003-for-rpc-over-http-HA001140273.aspx
If you are using Outlook 2007, you can follow this document to configure Outlook Anywhere:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/use-outlook-anywhere-to-connect-to-your-exchange-server-without-vpn-HP010102444.aspx
If you are using Outlook 2010, you can follow this document to configure Outlook Anywhere:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc179036.aspx
If anything is unclear, please feel free to let me know and I will be glad to help.
Best Regards,
Evan
