Exchange 2007 internal and external DNS records
I have a single Exchange 2007 server with a single namespace domain using split brain DNS. I have an A record and an MX hosted at Network Solutions in the form of mail.domain.com and users access OWA via
https://mail.domain.com/OWA I'm not currently using Outlook Anywhere but am considering doing so after I install a 3rd party CA SAN certificate. I believe I would need to add autodiscover.domain.com
to my DNS records. Should this be added as an A record or a CNAME record?
On my internal DNS server I have an A record with the FQDN of the Exchange Server. The server hostname is not mail, it's serverx.domain.com. Should I add an autodiscover entry here as well? If so, should it be an A record or a CNAME record?
On the OWA properties tab of Client Access, i have an internal url of
https://serverx.domain.com/owa and an external url of
https://mail.domain.com/owa. Would I need to make any changes here? The OAB url is
https://serverx.domain.com/OAB. Is this ok as well?
Would I need to make any changes to the receive connector in Hub transport ?
THANKS in advance.
Regards, Mike

For Q1, yes, you should add an autodiscover, but as an A record. Can't help with Q2. 2nd entry in this thread may help also.

Hi
If you're using split dns, that means you have the same dns zones on both the external and internal side
Yes, create A record for autodiscover, both internally and externally, depending on if you want the autodiscover function working from external
It's always nice to have
You should set the internal and externalurl on the OAB, OWA, EAS, OA to
https://mail.domain.com/owa
And also set the AutodiscoverServiceInternalUr
Set-ClientAccessServer -identity server1 -AutodiscoverServiceInternalUri https://autodiscover.domain.com/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml
For setting the other values you can use these commands
get-OwaVirtualDirectory | Set-OwaVirtualDirectory -ExternalUrl https://mail.domain.com/owa -InternalUrl https://mail.domain.com/owa
get-webservicesVirtualDirectory | Set-webservicesVirtualDirectory -ExternalUrl https://mail.domain.com/EWS -InternalUrl https://mail.domain.com/EWS
get-OABVirtualDirectory | Set-OABVirtualDirectory -ExternalUrl https://mail.domain.com/oab -InternalUrl https://mail.domain.com/oab
get-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory | Set-OABVirtualDirectory -ExternalUrl https://mail.domain.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync -InternalUrl https://mail.domain.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync
