Exchange 2007 mail enabled security group does not work
Hi, I changed a global security group to Universal and mail enabled it via the exchange management shell. Now I can not send emails to the group. There was already a distribution group with the same name and I deleted that first as I needed to use the name again. Is my issue because the one I deleted has the same name and cannot be used again for a period of time.

What happens when you send a message to it?

Hi, >>Is my issue because the one I deleted has the same name and cannot be used again for a period of time. I don’t think so. I did a test follow the setups you provide, but I can’t reproduce the issue. Could you please check the following option? 1. Try to ticket the recipient from Address book. Please don’t use auto complete feature to send email. 2. Specify the expansion server for the distribution group. 3. Use ADSIEdit tool to check the below attributes: LegacyExchange DN, mail, member. 4. Did you change the member of the distribution group? If so, try to force AD replication. 5. Check the "Sent to" security permission. 6. Uncheck this option: "Require that all senders are authenticated"

If you deleted and created the new DL within minutes of each other then this may have caused an issue if the replication was made around on all DC. Also, without knowing what error (NDR) if any you get, it;s hard to tell. Matbe use just have to wait due to the change you made, send again, what happens? Sukh

I deleted the distribution group then mail enabled security group using same name. It was within about 10 minutes but even 8 hours later it still did not work sending emails to that email address. I'll try the suggestions thanks

Hi Kaddie We have option to create a two or more distribution groups with the same display name, but the alias name has to be different. you mentioned, you created a DL with the same name and deleted the old one with same name. Make sure you are trying to send the mail to correct mail enabled distribution group, which is existing now. I hope you are trying to send email to the deleted one which is found in outlook cache. Open OWA and pull the new DL from the GAL and send a mail. Also, you can delete the cache email address of deleted dl from outlook and pull the email address from GAL and send a mail. To Create a New Universal Security Group 1. New-DistributionGroup -Name "Name of the DL" -DisplayName "Display Name" -Alias "dl-alias-name" -SAMAccountName "dl-alias-name" -Type "Security" 2. Set-Group -Identity "dl-alias-name" -Universal If any issue, Inform the error message that you are getting while sending email to newly created distribution list
