Exchange 2007 needs a Windows 2003 as Global Catalog to be installed
Hello, I just wanted to share a solution to a problem I was having. Also, I was wondering why this was happening. I have in my domain two Domain Controllers, both 2008 (an Enterprise and a DataCenter edition). I tried to install Exchange 2007 from scratch , with no Exchange 2003 in my environment. The thing is that I read that Exchange 2007 could be set up in a 2008 Enviroment, but I tried again and again and the same error appeared: "No found a valid Global Catalog". But there are two Global Catalogs (both 2008 Server). Then I opened all the ports in ISA Server 2006 , and no results. I though of installing a 2003 Domain Controller, and all began to work. Conclusion: Exchange 2007 does need a 2003 Domain Controller to be installed (and probably to work?), but in many documentation from Microsoft I read that it could work, as I have just pointed out, in a only-2008 enviroment. I just wanted to share this and to know if I read wrongly the documentation about the requisites to install Exchange 2007 (no service pack installed yet). Thanks in advance! Your problem had to do with you trying to install Exchange with old setupfiles. You should have downloaded Exchange 2007 SP3 and used that "media" (Yes, its a full install)Martina Miskovic

Thanks for the reply, Yes, I tried to install it without any service pack, because it was my thinking to install it and then apply the SP3. Moreover, I couldnt install it on a Windows 2008 Server but in a 2003 , all because of that?. Thanks again!Luis Olas Tcnico/Admon Sistemas . Sevilla (Espaa - Spain)

If I remember correctly Exchange 2007 was first supported in W2K8 in SP1.Martina Miskovic

Now it all makes sense, I was really struggling because I just thought that with any servipack I could install it in a 2008 Domain Enviroment. I really really appreciate your help! Luis Olas Tcnico/Admon Sistemas . Sevilla (Espaa - Spain)
