Exchange 2007 public folder search
Hi We are running exchange 2007, with Outlook 2003 clients. We extensively use public folders, for example one of our public folders contains 60,000 emails. Our users are encouraged to move any old emails into the public folders. However when they try and search this folder (using advanced search) it takes a long time, and sometimes causes outlook to crash. Is there anything that can be done to improve searching performance on public folders with so many emails? I understand with Exchange 2003 there was a function for indexing, however this never worked for me. Thanks

I wouldn't use public folders as an archive, myself. They're hard to administer and control. Disk space being disk space, I'd recommend that you encourage users to keep mail that they need to retain in their mailboxes.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Hi We have setup 500MB mailboxes for everyone , so people do not have the capicity to leave these emails in their mailbox.

Well, give them more capacity and reduce the size of your public folder database. Seems like a fair trade for better function to me.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."
