Exchange 2007 with Outlook 2007 client search issues
Where does the search index live when an end user searches his/her inbox? Is it created by outlook or exchange? I have an end user who is having an issue with searching, he said that when he starts a search it starts back in July and then seaches
all the way back to 2008 then starts with the more recent search results. I have tried to delete his email profile and have everything download again, but the problem comes back. I have also replaced his computer and installed a fresh clean copy
of everything. So does the search index get downloaded when configure in outlook client? This is a strange issue.
TIA,
John

What O/S is running on the desktop? Is Windows Search 4.0 installed on
the desktop?
If Windows Seartch is running on the desktop and the Outlook profile
is configured for cached mode then WS builds an index on the local
machine. Using desktop search insead of "instant serarch" in Outlook
will produce better results.

The desktop o/s is Windows XP SP3, I don't have Windows Search 4.0 install on any workstations. The exchange is 2007 on Server 2003 r2. Outlook 2007 is in cached exchange mode.

I think, then, that you should move your question to an Outlook forum.
Outlook doesn't use any indeses. The search is serial.
Old, but still relevant:
