Exchange 2010 - OWA/Outlook cannot send email after image restore
Hi, My exchange 2010 SP1 physical server crapped out but I had it backed up using Symantec System Recovery 2011. I restored the exchange server to an esxi 5.0 host and everything works fine and no errors in the system or application logs. Outlook 2010 and OWA can be logged in fine. The isssue is I cannot send emails in Outlook 2010 or in OWA. The emails get stuck in 'outbox' in Outlook and the emails in OWA go to 'Drafts' when I hit send. I can receive emails fine though. I just cannot send in outlook or in owa. I read online about people having the same issues because of the same SID. But this exchange 2010 server is running all the roles and this is the only VM and I don't have any duplicates of it. How can I fix this sending issue? Thanks

The isssue is I cannot send emails in Outlook 2010 or in OWA. The emails get stuck in 'outbox' in Outlook and the emails in OWA go to 'Drafts' when I hit send. I can receive emails fine though. I just cannot send in outlook or in owa. You can perform the following steps: 1. Disable all 3rd party add-ins including anti-virus 2. Run Process Monitor, startup Outlook and click Send/Recive 3. If the issue still occurs, recreate new profile and check the result 4. If 3 doesn't work, restart Microsoft Exchange Transport service and check again Hope it helps. If the issue still occurs, please let us know. ThanksSophia Xu TechNet Community Support

I suppose my issue is somewhat related to this: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/exchange2010/thread/0cfc735e-1f94-4772-a7c6-0f9549343ae7 It seems that EMC is searching for the machine SID (and not the DOMAIN SID for that computer) My issue: using VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client 5.0 to convert the Symantec recovery 2011 .sv2i backup files to VM on esxi 5.0 host doesnt work. After restore, the image is referencing the physical machines SID for exchange and not the virtual machine thus outlook/owa cannot send mail. It wasn't a duplicate SID issue. Fix: Restored Symantecrecovery 2011 backup to esxi 5.0 host via Symantec system recovery 2011 disk (SRD boot disk ) by creating a new VM manually. Dont use VMware converter. The Symantec System Recovery restore CD method doesnt have the SID issue. Exchange 2010 works fine after restore. Clients can send email via outlook/owa. Hope this helps someone else out there too!
