Exchange 2010 Can't Limit Maximum Store RAM Usage
We are trying to limit the Exchange Store memory usage. Despite everything said or read, when the store eats up 20 GB of RAM the server functions slow significantly. I have reviewed all the posts and have not seen a post of a success of where it works as it should. For whatever reason whether it is good practice or not, we would like to start off by limiting the Exchange Store to not use more than 10 GB of RAM. We have only been successful in getting the Store to use 1.2 GB of RAM and no more despite setting it up for 10 GB of RAM. Whatever we do that seems correct, the store will never exceed 1.2 GB unless we remove the settings all together and then it quickly grows to 20 GB. We have tried many settings but these should be correct: msExchESEparamCacheSizeMax = 327680 msExchESEparamCacheSizeMin = 32768 To get the max size 10,048,576/32 = 327680. So why does it only grow to 1.2 GB and stick there and do so very slowly? We cant seem to find the right combination of values to set to get it to behave correctly. We are using SBS2011 fully patched and the latest Exchange roll up as of July 2012. Looking forward to making this work correctly!

Its by Design that Store will Cosuming most of the RAM and it will share some RAM to other Applications when needed. == You got to troubleshoot the Performance issue on the server Inspite of Touching the Store Which will result in more issues with Client Connectivity where it won't be able to respond to the client requests properlySatheshwaran Manoharan | Exchange 2003/2007/2010 | Blog:http://www.careexchange.in | Please mark it as an answer if it really helps you ------------- I do not represent the organisation I work for, all the opinions expressed here are my own. I do know that it uses up to 20 GB by design. However, the server response slows significantly when it needs to give up some of its RAM for other functions. This particular server has 32 Gigs of RAM installed and with 20 Gigs used up by Exchange the server's response time to say opening Exchange Management Console, Active Directory, Backup, and other routine functions slows to about 1/3 of the speed when the store is using under 10 Gigs of RAM. From our tests on four different servers, if we could limit Exchange to 10 to 15 Gigs of RAM, the overall server response would be snappier. If we find that it doesn't work well in the long run we can remove the settings. From other posts on the net, it seems that not too many folks have been able to sucessfully limit the store RAM usage on the latest releases of Exchange 2010. Surely somebody has done this correctly and we are just hoping to learn from them on what the correct settings are to achive the limiting of the store size correctly.

We saw this post previously and followed it exactly. However, the post is setting the min cache to be 8 MB and max to be 32 MB. When setting the Max cache size to 10 GB it will creep up to 1.2 GB and then hover there. Therein is the problem - the maximum cache size doesn't seem to be behaving correctly when set. I love to hear from somebody who has succesfully set the maximum store size to anything between 5 and 10 GB and it is working correctly - then I'd love to copy those settings and see if it will work for us.
