I noticed that exchange is pointing to a old 2003 DC for its Default Configuration DC. I want to make the change and understand how using set-AdServerSettings. My question is once I make this change will I have to reboot Exchange, Service - or it will just redirect its configuration requests to the newly specified server? I am also running DAG in a two server environment and want to make sure I will not impact any peripherals services by making this change. Thanks - SJMP

I believe it wil re-direct the next time it does AD topology discovery. You can verify which DC the exchange servers are using for their configuration controller from the EMS with: get-exchangeserver -status | select name,currentconfigdomaincontroller [string](0..33|%{[char][int](46+("686552495351636652556262185355647068516270555358646562655775 0645570").substring(($_*2),2))})-replace " "

Also, if you want to exclude or set static DC/GC you have to use the set-exchangeserver and not set-adserversettings. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123716.aspx Sukh

I do not want to set it for static in case the Primary DC was to fail. I just want the default to be changed. I assume I can use "set-Exchangeserver -DomainController fqdn" - will this command change the default config dc? any reason why we do not use set-adserversettings? Thanks - sJMP
