Exchange 2010 Dependencies on AD Sites and Services
Hi there - I've been noticing this odd behaviour with my Exchange when I add a new site (different ip subnet), it halts the Exchange server and email traffic stops.
Exchange 2010, Exchange is in DAG mode with two physical servers, Windows 2008R2 64bit. My setup is one AD site in one domain (no child domains).
It seems that it is configured to be reliant on the one site alone and when I add a different site Exchange breaks. Id like to re-visit this if I can take it off of its dependence so it will give me the capability of creating multiple AD sites.
Please advise. Cheers.

Thats because the subnet is not defined for the Existing "Default Web site"
Add a Subnet in Ad sites and services for the default website
then
Add a new site
So that when you run nltest /dsgetsite
Exchange Server will know which site to see

I dont quite understand, how do you mean? Can you please explain to me on what I need to do in my Exchange and Windows domain controller?

i Will try to explain bit more clear.
--
you have default web site now.
Now the Subnet is not Defined
--
As there is only one Site . The Existing Subnet will Choose Default Website Automatically
--
Once you create one more Site - The Existing Subnet of the Exchange Server will not know which site to See.
The Default Website or the new site
--
To avoid that mess
Open your AD Sites and Services
Go to Subnets Add the Exchange Server Subnet for the Default Web site
Open Active Directory Sites and Services. In the console tree, right-click Subnets, and then click New Subnet.
Where?
Active Directory Sites and Services/Sites/Subnets
In Address, type the subnet address where the Exchange Server residesIn Mask, type the subnet mask that describes the range of addresses included in this subnet.Under Select a site object for this subnet (Choose Default Web Site), click the site to associate with this subnet, and then click OK.

I think i Gave a best shot.

Ok found that however here's my current setup:
1 Site Object all are in this object called csaa.local:
3 DCs that are in 192.168.22.0/24 subnet (corporate office)
1 DC that is in 192.168.25.0/24 subnet (remote)
1 DC that is in 192.168.26.0/24 subnet (remote)
1 DC that is in 192.168.27.0/24 subnet (remote)
I don't have anything setup in the subnet right now in Sites and Services, how should I create separating the above groups?
Do I also need to create different sites per remote office location and assign them their network subnets? Cheers.

It depends how you going to design it your AD topology
As of now you can associate all the subnets into the default web site
Create Subnet ,
192.168.22.0/24 - Choose Default Web site , Do the same thing for the other ones
192.168.25.0/24
192.168.26.0/24
192.168.27.0/24
Then Create a new site. nothing will get affected in your environment
Add the Associate subnet to the new site , then you can remove it from the Default web siteSatheshwaran Manoharan | Exchange 2003/2007/2010 | Blog:http://www.careexchange.in | Please mark it as an answer if it really helps you

I forgot to mention I also have a VLAN environment (10.11.21.0/24) in which I'd like to separate.
Can I do:
Create two sites VLAN-IN and CSAA.LOCAL
Subnet 10.11.21.0/24 add to site VLAN-In
Subnets 192.168.22.0/24, 192.168.25.0/24, 192.168.26.0/24, 192.168.27.0/24 add to CSAA.LOCAL
Please assist.
Cheers.

Add all the Subnet in the Default web site.
Create a new site Called Csaa.local
Move all the 5 DC's to it
Move all the 192's Subnets to the csaa.local quickly
Verify Site is Good.
You can restated MsExchangeAdtopology Service on your Exchange to verify Exchange is stable and working Good.
Also you can check for 2080 Event which will show you the Available DC's
Then
Create a new site name VLAN-IN
move the remaining 1 dc
Then move the 10. Subnet from DWS and Add it to VLAN-IN
====
Run Repadmin /syncall /Aped
from both the sites DC
Verify your sync between Dc's are good
---
---
Then leave some days for safety You can rename or delete the Default web site . if really want to .
