Exchange 2010 EWS external URL - mailtips could not be retrieved
It works from OWA externally through the internet, but it doesnt work externally using RPC\HTTP - Outlook Anywhere.
I used "test e-mail autoconfiguration" and on the Log tab it says
"autodiscover to https://domain.com/autodiscover.xml FAILED (0x800C8203)
"autodiscover to
https://autodiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml starting
"GetLastError=0; httpStatus=200."
"Autodiscover to https://autodiscover.fomain.com/autodiscover.xml succeeded (0x00000000)"
How do I know what my EWS url should be? I used the command "Get-WebServicesVirtualDirectory" and it is mail.domain.com
I have RPC\HTTP Outlook Anywhere clients pointing to mail.domain.com and EAS clients on their smartphones pointing to webmail.domain.com

Typically from what I've seen, your EWS URL should match your other external URL's, with the exception of the part after the domain name. It would, be default, look like what you have above. You shouldn't have to mess with IIS at all. Worse case, you can
reset the directories in IIS by using the EMC along with the instructions
here. Is it only mailtips that aren't working, or are there other OA issues as well? You also cut off that test "e-mail autoconfiguration", as it doesn't show the published EWS URL. Is mailtips broken only for external email addresses?

Using Outlook 2010 with Exchange 2010, remote users using OA receive "mailtips could not be retrieved". It works fine in OWA and whiel on the domain, but while connected through the internet and using Outlook 2010 the message appears. I read that this could
happen if the EWS external URL is configured wrongly. How do I know what it should be and if I change it what will it effect, anything else?
Currently the External URL is https://mail.domain.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx
Do I also need to make changes in IIS? Thanks.

Heres the "e-mail autoconfiguration" test for autodiscovery. It is only mailtips and only through Outlook Anywhere (RPC\HTTP), thats it. How does it look below? As mentioned I have webmail.domain.com for EAS and OWA and mail.domain.com for Outlook Anywhere
(RPC\HTTP).

Hello,
Do you mean owa works external? If so, please run "test e-mail autoconfiguration" to verify if
autodiscover and EWS url are correct.
If not, please verify if you enable miltips. By default, external senders MailTip is disabled.
Here is more information on mailtips for your reference.

Hello,
Please check if you ingore client certificates.
Please open iis manager on CAS server, and then choose autodiscover under default web site. And choose ssl settings.
Please if there is any SAN certificate in your environment and the certificate name include autodiscover name.
