Exchange 2010 Not delivering NDR's
Our employees, when sending emails to outside email addresses with a correctusername@misspelledomainname.com , they do not receive an NDR. However, when sending an email to a baduser@gooddomainname.com they do receive that... We are running a single exchange 2010. The mail is not in the users spam box. I enabled logging, and I see the connection on our system from our smarthost partner (mxlogic) for the mail in which our user(s) misspelled the domain name. I know the NDR, does leave MXLogic, I know our exchange 2010 server, receives the connection, but the NDR does not get deleivered. Hank.

Hi, Based on my research, I would like to answer you that the symptom is normal. If the domain name is correct, the email will be sent to target domain at once and the user name is estimated by target domain. If the user name is correct, the email will be routed to the user’s mailbox. Otherwise, a NDR email will be replied to the send quickly. Regarding to the wrong domain name, the email will not be sent to any domain and it will keep staying in the Submission Retry Queue. The NDR email will not be delivered until time-out interval. You can open Queue Viewer and the wrong domain email exists in the Retry Queue. By default, the delay DSN message notification time-out interval is 4 hours. If the message isn't successfully delivered before the notification time-out interval has passed, a delay DSN message is delivered to the sender. For more information about Retry Queue, please refer to the following articles: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124081.aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998043.aspx Thanks.Novak Wu-MSFT
