Exchange 2010 Public Folder Removal
Hi there, Our Exchange 2010 server was installed with Public Folders. We will only be using Outlook 2007+ and OWA as mail clients, so we are looking at removing these databases. I've read some of the procedures online and know that I have to remove all the public folders before I can turf the database. I'm just wondering if this includes the system public folders as well? I get the following error when I try to remove: -------------------------------------------------------- Microsoft Exchange Error -------------------------------------------------------- The public folder database 'PF2' cannot be deleted. PF2 Failed Error: The public folder database "PF2" contains folder replicas. Before deleting the public folder database, remove the folders or move the replicas to another public folder database. For detailed instructions about how to remove a public folder database, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=81409&clcid=0x409. I'm guessing this is because there are still some system folders in there, but I'm not quite sure how to go about removing them. Would appreciate any help!

Hi James, Thanks for the speedy response. I probably should have been a bit less muddy in my question. I've read this article and am familiar with the procedure, but my main concern is whether I need to take any precautions or steps before doing this? - Liam

As I know, there’s no such requirement/precaution for removing the public folders, as long as you ensure that the functionalities of the public folders won’t be used anymore You can backup AD and the public folder database for the safetyPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi James, Just ran both of these in the EMS and still not having any luck. A Get-PublicFolder shows IPM_Subtree as still remaining. Edit: Nevermind. I had to move the replica to a different server first. Thanks!
