Exchange 2010 SP2 Address List questions
A few questions about Address Lists in Exchange 2010 SP2.
1) Is it possible to have multiple aliases/names linked to a single mail user? (If so, what would the best way to go about doing that be?)
2) Searching the GAL: At the moment, I can't seem to search against email addresses, except for the primary SMTP address. Is there any way to change this, and include all of a user's email addresses in the GAL/Address Book searches?
3) Is it possible to change the Address List view to Last Name, First Name
on a per user basis? (I've seen the posts and articles on changing it globally, but we have different VIPs who'd like it different views.)

1. Not in the context of really adding a second Exchange alias. But in the context if you're trying to do this so each user can be searchable by more than one attribute yes. You can use ANR to use custom attributes and search on that for each employee.

2. When you say you can't search against secondary smtp addresses, you mean when you compose an email and type
user1@secondaryproxy@company.com and click ctrl+k it doesn't resolve?
3. No this cannot be done on a per user basis. It's been asked before on the forums and never heard of any type of work around as well.

1) Thanks, that should work for what I'm trying to do. I hope.
2) Right. Our (IT) Help Desk has about a dozen different email aliases, and only shows up in a GAL search, or the "Check Names" function under its primary email address/alias (HelpDesk, or Help Desk). Searching on, "support," for example,
or trying to do a "Check Names" on that draws a blank, even though one of its email addresses is support@domain.com
3) Good enough. Less work for me if it's not possible.

2) So I went into the Schema Management tool, verified that ANR is searching against the proxyAddresses attribute (and it's indexed), and checked my Help Desk object again with ADSI edit, and it does contain support@domain.com in that field, yet searching/Check
Names against "support" doesn't yield any results.
Any ideas?

Typing in the full address and doing a Check Names works, though partial addresses don't... if that helps.

The ANR just makes the attribute searchable, however from my research the actually calling of the function (ResolveRecipients) from Outlook only searches for the primary SMTP address

Sounds like one of those situations where not much can be done about it either, so it looks like the answer to 2) is also "no." Right?

Quick answer is no, the only option is custom dev work.
