Thnx for the Reply Sembee
I ended up useing the RPC CAS approach and am going on site today to make sure auto discover works on all systems. I tested on two over the weekend and they both worked.

Renaming the server isn't supported.
Therefore if you don't have an RPC CAS Array in place already you have two options.
1. Double swing. So you move the data to another server with a temporary name, remove the original, then rebuild the new server with the original name and install Exchange on to that, and move the data to that machine.
2. Configure an RPC CAS Array, then remove the original server after removing all of the data. Then cross your fingers that autodiscover does its thing. You can also help by changing the DNS internally to point the old server name to the new server name.
If you have a small number of clients, then setting up the CAS array and then visiting the clients and doing a repair profile will also work.
Up to Exchange 2007, this wasn't an issue. As long as the two servers were alive when the clients connected, they would be redirected automatically.
Unfortunately with Exchange 2010, that no longer happens. The clients connect to the CAS role, and as the CAS role is still valid they do not redirect to the new CAS role server. It takes the CAS role server to go away for autodiscover to kick in and do a full
discovery process (in theory at least - I haven't tried it myself, and Microsoft think that is a valid method, which is a joke).
One other point, you must be mistaken in your first post about the roles the original server had. It is not possible for Edge to co-exist with anything else, so either you had just Hub, CAS and Mailbox, or it was just an Edge, not both.

Hello TechNet
I have a situation where I need to move exchange 2010 from one Server to another. Here are the details
The Current Server has all roles installed EMC,HUB, CAS, and Edge. I need to transport all these roles to another server and keep the name.
New Server has been installed with all roles but Edge and Ive moved the users to the new datastore.
My plan is to uninstall the old exchange server then change the server name on the new one. Is this a bad idea or will Exchange uninstall gracefully and transfer the roles to the new server?
Im new to exchange 2010 and Im unhappy I have to do this but it has to be done. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Hi
Renaming an Exchange 2010 server is not supported but you shouldn't need to do this anyway. What is broken that you think renaming the server would fix, there is most probably another way to fix it.
Cheers, Steve
