Exchange 2010 Sp1 And DC on Single server
Hello
I want to install exchange 2010 sp1 standard and its DC on a single box. users using exchange will not be more than 15 users. i understand that i have to install hub/cas/mailbox roles on the same server.
Will be sending/receiving emails over internet and internally as-well.
Need SMTP access from outside but don't want owa/outlook to be accessed from outside.
Need SMTP/OWA/Outlook from inside.
please suggest what all things shld i keep in mind while setting this up

Its not recommended that you install Exchange on Domain Controller. You can install the server in Virtual Server (HyperV)
You can install this feature from Server Manager. Create two Virtual Server and make one of them DC and another one Exchange Server.
You can Disable OWA and Outlook AnyWhere on the server.

Rest will be fine once you install the server.

1. As mentioned it's not recommended but you can and will have issues. This has somewhat been discussed here -
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchange2010/thread/9f123a2d-cafc-4b97-ae83-a29aa09a7ad1/
2. Depending on what edition you have of the OS you may have a limited number of free VM which you can use, i.e if you use datacentre edition.
3. Or you can purchase as license if required for hyper-v and the vm (guest), see what works out cheaper/best for you.
4. Your last questions about SMTP/Outlook and OWA. Internally this is fine and will pretty much be default apart from the SMTP which if you're referring to application relaying then you will have to configure the connctors and run some shell commands.
If you just referring to SMTP as emails then you will be fine. Externall you dont have to publish OWA/OA so dont need to worry about this.Sukh

As above mentioned, it’s not recommended to install Exchange 2010 on DC. Regarding to OWA and Outlook from outside, Outlook Anywhere is disabled by default
and you just need keep the current configuration.
Thanks.
