Exchange 2010 deployment options
Right now I have an older web base mail client that Outlook can pop with 155 email accounts. I have two networks and 2 domains setup. About 30 of my users pop the server on the lan. The other 125 remote users access the email server via a webpage. I will have 30 or so users that will want to access Exchange via mobile devices, laptops and desktops wherever they go. I was thinking the other 95 users can use OWA. It’s my intension to purchase a new box with MS Server 2008r2 standard and Exchange 2010 Standard 1 server. The new box will become one of two or three DCs on one of the domains. Perhaps an odd question but I can’t decide which domain to put it on. One of the domains (X) exists on the web and we have full control. The other domain (Y) name is a local thingy and we don’t have it on the web. Domain Y is used by our 30 users that will want full access to Exchange at all times. Does it really matter where I put it if we don’t have ‘control’ of the domain name on the web? Do I need to double up and get a server AND exchange cal for every computer on the domain where the Exchange computer sits (That connects to the Exchange box)?

Hi I would put it on the "web" so the OWA/EAS can be used over internet Do you have a trust between the domains? If I were you I would started a plan and migrated users from one domain to another so you only have one domain. You will need at least 1 - Win 2008 r2 std license 1 - Exchange 2010 Std license X - Exchange 2010 std CAL, ent cal if you are going to use archiving etc. / at least one std cal per user More about licenses http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/2010/en/us/licensing.aspxJonas Andersson MCTS: Microsoft Exchange Server 2007/2010 | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010 | MCSE/MCSA Blog: http://www.testlabs.se/blog

I have some PCI DSS compliance issues, so I’m trying to keep the domains / networks segmented. Most of my users will be connecting using OWA and an Exchange device cal. Basically, shift work sharing a desktop. Do you think I’ll need a server cal and exchange cal for every computer on the lan?
