Exchange 2010 envelope-journal report
We use the mailstore archive feature in Exchange 2003 to archive email to a public folder. We then use the folder assistant in Outlook to apply rules to the folder to forward the email to meet the business needs of one of our divisions. I believe
this is actually message journaling. We need to do the same thing in Exchange 2010. Unfortunately 2010 appears to only do envelope-journal reports which are useless to us. The folder assistant rules will not trigger on the envelope-journal
report in an 2010 public folder. The rules do trigger on an Exchange 2003 public folder, but the people that get the forwarded mail do not want to have to open an attachment to see the email. Is there a way to make Exchange 2010 journal the original
message like Exchange 2003? If not does any one know of any 3rd party apps or another way to accomplish the same thing?
We did look at using Outlook rules, but the send mail rules are client side only and won't work when a pda/phone is used. Is there something that would apply server side sent mail rules?

Hi,
This is by design in Exchange 2007 and 2010. Envelope journaling is the only journaling method supported by Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2007.
Alternatively, you can use Transport rules to forward certain messages to certain user address. For more information, please refer to the following article:

We are going to try the transport rules. Will have a lot of testing to do to ensure we meet the business's expectations. Message journaling would be a lot easier.
