Exchange 2010 migration Discontinue old server.
I recently installed an EX2010 server into an EX2003 organization and everything seems to be working well, however the outlook clients are still pointing to the 2003 server not the 2010 server as I would expect. I want to discontinue the 2003 server after migrating all of the mailboxes to the 2010 server. After that I need the steps to remove the 2003 server and point outlook to the new 2010 server. Has anyone done this and can point me in the right direction?

Hi there, for this question, I would point you to the Exchange Deployment assistant which provides you of an high-level overview on what you need to do when migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010. Can you confirm that you followed the necessary steps in order to get where you are right now? Grts, Michael

What happens when you reconfigure the Outlook profile?Gulab | MCTS-MCITP: 2010 | MCTS-MCITP: 2007 | MCC | Skype: gulab.mallah

Your outlook clients will continue to look at the 2003 server until their mailboxes are actually moved. Once you move a mailbox the user can open outlook and, assuming things are configured correctly, the profile will automatically update itself with the new server information. To make sure this happens correctly you need to make sure your Autodiscover records are configured properly. A key part of your migration, you CANNOT move mailboxes from 2003 to 2010 by using AD Users & Computers. You have to go into your Exchange 2010 server and initiate a 'Move Request'. Here is information on how to execute this: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124495.aspx Here is the technet article that will guide you through removing your legacy Exchange servers. It discusses having 2007 in the environment but the same process occurs even if you have 2010 as your end resuld: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb288905(EXCHG.80).aspx Thanks, Jorge R.
