Exchange 2010 on Virtual
Hi All,
I just setup Exchange ent 2010 on Windows 2008 R2 Ent Server. Add 10GB RAM and 4 VCPU. 650 Mailboex.
Now we have noticed outlook connections and switching around like calendar non responding and slowness.
I thought all in one cause to this issue. So i need your exprties idea to setup new Physical Server or another virtual server to share the load.

Hi
Network or firewall\antivirus also affect outlook connections.
If you install all roles on one server, you can install them independently.
You can install cas role and hub role on new server and remove cas and hub role on origin server.
As my experience, physical server is better than virtual server.

You haven't done any real research to justify adding another server. Besides, adding another server means you have to purchase a load balancer and setup a DAG. Don't jump to conclusions.
Start by understanding what the bottle neck is. Open EMC and within the "ToolBox" area there are two tools to analyze performance. I'd start with the Performance Troubleshooter.

Hi
1.You can set up dag between physical and virtual. (same os, same domain).
2. You can set up dag and copy whole database to other dag memeber server.Terence Yu

HI ,
Just run the Performance Troubleshooting Assistant
only found
The top 6 users account for 45% of the MAPI CPU usage on the server.
The usage sample shows RPC activity is high for one or more users, rather than being distributed
Mem is 96% ?

Hi
You install all roles on same server. Mailbox role service store.exe will consume all memory.
So it is convenient, you can install mailbox role independently.

Silly question but did you size this server properly to begin with? You should follow the guidelines MSFT has provided
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd351192
Make sure you are estimating your IOPs properly by doing a proper analysis on your mailbox profiles and using the Mailbox Role Calculator to help you with the IOPs estimation.
http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2009/11/09/exchange-2010-mailbox-server-role-requirements-calculator.aspx
If designed poorly you will just continue to waste money throwing hardware at a solution. Doing the above will allow you to efficiently provide a well performing solution.
Side note: with 1 exception I have only deployed Exchange 2010 servers in virtual environments. These environment were as small as 500 mailboxes and as large as 80,000. If the virtual environment is properly configured and best practices for deploying Exchange
on a virtual environment then you should not see performance problems. Making them physical shouldn't change much (not enough to notice) unless you are oversubscribing the virtual environment too much or the virtual environment is not properly deployed
using best practices for deploying Exchange on a virtual environment.

I believe there is a language issue here. I believe Terence meant to say that your mailbox server role is consuming too much memory. AKA, add more RAM to the server, or break out the mailbox role to another server.
10GB for a multi-role server, supporting 600 users is on the low side. I would definitely increase it, but I'd review the VM host environment as a whole. Sounds like a lot more discovery and understanding is needed.
