Hi,

in the Exchange Server Supportability Matrix (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff728623%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx) is written that Exchange 2013 SP1 CU7 neets .Net 4.5 or higher.

Because our Monitoring Software requires .Net Framework 3.5 im wondering if its supported to install older Versions of .Net Framework additionaly.

We didnt experience Problems in another environment where both Versions are installed - but what about the MS Support ?

Hi Jakob,

Thank you for your question.

By your state, we will consider:

1. If Monitor Software is not installed on Exchange server, the version of .Net will not be effected in organization. We could install .Net 3.5 on Monitor software server and install .Net 4.5 or later on Exchange server.
2. If Monitor Software is installed on Exchange server, we strongly suggest Exchange server is separated from Monitor Software Server. Because Exchange will consume much system resources which includes software and hardware. If Exchange server is separated Monitor Software server. It will be no matter just as my said.

Hi Jim,

thank you for the reply. The matter is that the Monitoring Client Software - which we use to monitor the Exchange functionalities etc needs .Net Framework 3.5.

Its not a question of the performance - just a question if the Exchange Server is in a supported state if we install .Net Framework additionaly.

weve opened a support case about this topic and MS confirmed that we can install older .Net Framework Versions additionaly.

.Net Framework 3.5 is based on CLR2.0, thats why there are different categories in the server feature list.

 Each version of the .NET Framework contains the common language runtime (CLR), the base class libraries, and other managed libraries.
