Hi,

I have an Exchange 2013 Server standard edition, its a multi role server (standalone) with no other Exchange 2013 servers.

I need to upgrade this Server from Exchange 2013 CU2 to Exchange CU7.....most from what I have been reading is that I can upgrade directly, but there was one article I read that recommended I upgrade to CU4 first and then CU7.

What is the general consensus on this? Go from CU2 to CU7 or from CU2>>>CU4>>>CU7?

Can you provide the link to the article?

Usually, Exchange updates are cumulative and you can pass from (for example) 2 to 10.

There may be exceptions (for a particular reason) but I am not aware of any myself (does not mean there are none).

I see, RU4 was actually SP1 for Exchange 2013 and in the past, rollups were not a complete install file.

Given the size of RU7 (1.6 GB) I think you could actually use that to install E2K13 afresh.

Unless someone else gives a reason to install RU4 (SP1) first, I would just install RU7 - with the usual precautions (backups).

Thanks for the reply, I will remove all AV, reboot the Server and then try and upgrade Exchange 2013 CU2 to CU7, as per stated by Microsoft:

Considering I have a standalone multi role Exchange 2013 Server, is there any point of using Maintenance mode as I do not have other Exchange Servers to redirect mailflow to?

The Exchange 2013 Server also hasn't been patched in over a year through Windows update....do you think I should patch it first and then run Exchange 2013 CU7 or upgrade Exchange 2013 first and then patch?

Certainly the redirection commands would make no sense.  Otherwise, I'm not familiar with the Exchange 2013 maintenance mode. I did look at this:

You can put your Mailbox server into Maintenance mode to make sure that your end users won't be effected when performing upgrading.

What's more, you can't upgrade Windows when Exchange is installed on the server.
