Consider the example:

There are the built-in Mailbox Database N1N2N3 on Server1 and the built-in Mailbox Database N5N6N7 on Server2. An administrator adds the built-in Mailbox Database N1N2N3 on Server1 to the DAG - when this operation completes there will be two databases on Server2: Mailbox Database N1N2N3 copied from Server1 and its own built-in Mailbox Database N5N6N7.

Would it be possible to delete the BUILT-IN Mailbox Database N5N6N7 from Server2 leaving it with just a DAG-mailbox database (or, strictly speaking, would it be possible to move Server2's system mailboxes to the Mailbox Database N1N2N3, wich already contains system mailboxes for Server1, in order to have the ability to delete the built-in Mailbox Database N5N6N7)?

I think it's impossible because each server has its own set of system mailboxes and in that scenario there will be two servers per single database - am I right?

Yes you don't want to delete and palyaround with builting mailbox database,,as they have system and arbitration mailboxes.

You better also remove them from the DAG

Create a database on mailbox1 and another on mailbox2 and keep copied of both on the opposite server.

You should absolutely move the Arbitration Mailboxes to a database in the DAG. There is only one set of Arbitration Mailboxes and they are used in the entire ORG and you would not want them to be unavailable since features like OAB Generation,Message Moderation, Booking Attendant would not work.

A DAG Member does not need to have any database not added to the DAG, so yes you can remove them if you want to (after moving the Arbitration Mailboxes and the DiscoverySearchMailbox) or add them to the DAG (creating a database copy)

I agree with Martina. There is only one set of Arbitration Mailboxes in the entire organization. You can use the following command to view the mailbox database where these system mailboxes locate.

Get-Mailbox -Arbitration | fl name, displayname, database

If you want to remove a database in which the system mailboxes locate, you need to move them to another mailbox database.

Yup, that was what I was trying to say - So it is important that they are moved to a database in the DAG cause you would not want to loose functionality.
