Hi all,

just installed a single Exchange 2016 server on a clean and new environment.

I create new database and moved all mailboxes, include arbitration to the new database. When I try to delete the old database I get the following error:

This mailbox database contains one or more mailboxes, mailbox plans, archive mailboxes, public folder mailboxes or arbitration mailboxes.

I have checked, and the database does not contain any of these mailboxes. Status of the old database is:

Active                                         Mounted
Copy queue length:                      0
Content index state:                     Healthy

I have rebooted server several times, but did not help.

Did I miss something?

You must have missed one of the mailboxes for that error to be generated.

Checked for public folder mailboxes? Have you given it time to replicate the changes? Rebooting will have no effect as it is a domain facility.

Have you queried the database to see if there are mailboxes still on it?

yes I have checked the database and it does not contain any of the specified mailboxes. Since its new installation it does not create any public folder mailboxes either, and I have double check that there is none.

In Exchange 2013 I have done installation with same step as this, and there was not this error there. Want to avoid using adsi edit to remove the mailbox database.

When using powershell to remove the old database, i get same error. Have waited for almost 24 hours without any help.

Make sure you have moved the AuditLog mailbox (new in E2016) to new database before removing the default first database.

Check with this...

Get-Mailbox -Database DefaultFirstDBName -AuditLog 

Move it using this...

Get-Mailbox -Database DefaultFistDBName -AuditLog | New-MoveRequest TargetDatabase New-E2016-DBName
