Exchange Attributes grayed out
After a schema extention for cisco unity and rebooting domain controllers, we can no longer add an email address to some users. It is grayed out. You actually can not modify any exchange attributes on some users? Any idea what could cause this or how to troubleshoot?
Thanks,
Steve

Are you having troubles using the Exchange tools, AD Users and Comptuers, or Cisco tools to modify the exchange attributes? If your issue is with the Cisco tools, then you need to ensure you have registered all the servers and databases with the Cisco tools. Consult the Cisco leterature and support for doing this. You may also need to ensure that the cisco service accounts have teh proper permissions for the OUswhere theproblematic users reside.
Hope this helps,
Jeremy

The problem is the attributes are grayed out in AD for most users when trying to modify them with Users and Computers. You can not add an email address or hide an address from the GAL. These options are just not available for some reason.

What version of Exchange are you running? What account (and administrative role) are you using to manage the user accounts? Are the affected users in a OU different from the user accounts which you can manage?
You are most likely dealing with a permissions issue? Review the permissions granted on the administrative account and ensure it has the permissions required within Exchange and AD.

Hi,
Besides Jeremys input, please try to check directory service event log to see whether any related error logged there. Also you can follow KB 314980 to enable diagnostic logging for DS Schema. Logs can be found in the default location % SystemRoot %\Debug.
You can post the detail error information here for further troubleshooting.

BTW,I recommend you to post this AD Schema related issue in newsgroup for AD schema to get better help.
