I have tried to set up autodiscover using the SRV record, but my users still get prompts for autodiscover. I have tried setting the internal URL. When I try to do Test-OutlookWebservices, autodiscover fails with "The underlying connection was closed". Please help! Thanks.

You don't set an InternalURL for Autodiscover. For domain joined users who are internal to the network and have access to AD, you set the AutodiscoverServiceInternalURI so these clients can contact AD for the SCP record which contains the HTTP URL to contact a CAS Server for Autodiscover Service. For internal non-domain joined clients or users external to the network who don't have AD access, they first try the SRV record, and if that fails, they go the https://domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml followed by https://autodiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml. It's what the client does. That's also what the the Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer does, in that order:https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/And not all clients do step four.
