Exchange Mailbox Sizes
Good Morning,
I have a question regarding mailbox sizes. I am using Intermedia as a Microsoft Hosted Exchange provider. I am using Microsoft Outlook 2007 as our email clients. What is Microsoft's recommended mailbox size? Some of our email boxes are close to 3GB and they run slow. IS there a whitepaper out there that I can refer to? Any help is much appreciated. Have you tried contact them to report your slowness? Do you get the same slowness when using OWA?Mark Morowczynski|MCT| MCSE 2003:Messaging, Security|MCITP:EMA 2K7,EDA Win 7,ES,SA,EA|MCTS:Windows Mobile Admin|Security+|http://almostdailytech.com

Well Microsoft states that if you use more than 2GB per mailbox...you need to consider disabling cache mode as you will note slow performanceCapecolMCSA - MCTS Exchange Server 2007 - 2010

My understanding is that with the Outlook 2007 SP1 February 2009 cumulative update and SP2, Microsoft's guidelines have changed:
* Up to 5 gigabytes (GB): This size should provide a good user experience on most hardware. * Between 5 GB and 10 GB: This size is typically hardware dependent. Therefore, if you have a fast hard disk and much RAM, your experience will be better. However, slower hard drives, such as drives that are typically found on portable computers or early generation solid state drives (SSDs), experience some application pauses when the drives respond. * More than 10 GB: This size is where short pauses begin to occur on most hardware. * Very large, such as 25 GB or larger: This size increases the frequency of the short pauses, especially while you are downloading new e-mail. Alternatively, you can use Send/Receive groups to manually sync your mail.
