Exchange Message Tracking Logs
In ESM i have changed the retention period for message tracking logs, should it be instant? I did it this morning and they are still there. The logs go all the way back to 2005 and take up a lot of space that i could do with so i don’t know whether to just delete them manually? They are at ‘Program Files\Exchsrvr\%servername%.logs If i remove them manually will this have an adverse effects on the rest of Exchange or does it just mean i cannot track messages back past the point at which i stop deleting?

I suspect this will be done on some sort of nightly schedule by the System Attendant. Either leave it until tonight or just delete them. It won't do any harm to Exchange, it doesn't really care too much about anything except todays log files really. Neill

It will not be deleted instantly. There is a service which maintenance and removes it You can also manually delete it or zip it and save ot some other place. Normally it SHOULd update itself with the new value when service detects it ( give it 24 hrs)
