Exchange Outlook Mails
Hi All, Hope Every thing is good, Want to post one question. If any user has Outlook Client configured with any Version of Exchange and default mail delivery is on his/her Local System(PST). Suppose user has deleted his/her mail (Shift Delete) from Inbox or from any folder so Is there any option that we can recover his/her mail. Kindly give the suggestion. Thanks Mukesh

If the user is using outlook connecting to Exchange server then default settings of the exchange server ?( which are about 30 days take effect) . that is the mail is reatined for 30 days in his mailbox. if you are using a Pop3 account like outllok express etc and have a setting on Exchange to NOT keep the copies onthe server then the deleted mail is Gone. The option to recover Hard deleted mail is Only from using one day old backup. there are other techniques available in which you can recover hard deleted messages as they are marked for deletion in the mailbox on exchange server ( and hidden) and can only be viewed with MFCMAPI etc low level tools.

If the delivery was set to the Exchange mailbox, you could recover the items from the dumpster ( assuming you have deleted items retention enabled) I would check there under recover deleted items. You didnt mention your Exchange or Outlook version so you may need to enable the DumpsterAlwaysOn registry setting to recover the items: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997155(EXCHG.80).aspx If delivery is to a pst and the items have been deleted, you will need to restore the pst from backup if you have one or try this method, no guarantees it will work however: http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/restoredeleteditemsfromanoutlookpst.htm By the way, delivery to a pst is a really bad idea. I would change that.

Actually, when you pop email and remove it from the server, the mail is recoverable from the Outlook/OWA dumpster within the deleted item retention time.

Hi Guys, Thanks for the information, But In my scenario mails are directly downloading to the pst, so want to know if mails are directly downloading to pst then the that case is the mail remain in the server for some time or not? or it only applicable when mails remain in server. Thanks Mukesh

Hi Mukesh, It is better for you to post your Outlook version, Exchange version and what is protocol you used to connect the Exchange Server. Per my knowledge, if you use Outlook 2003 and Exchange 2003 (set all emails saved in a new created pst file), it will not save emails on the server side. Thanks, Evan

Thanks Mukesh I dont think so. And by that I mean, having mail delivered to a pst doesnt leave them on the server at all.
